Melanie Chung-Sherman, LCSW-S, LCPAA, PLLC. (she, her, hers)
has worked in the field of child welfare since 1999 and is the founder and owner of a private practice. She is a Texas Board-certified clinical social worker and supervisor and a licensed child-placing administrator through the State of Texas. She has specialized in the field of child welfare and social justice initiatives ranging from foster care, adoption, mental health, trauma-informed care, and administration. She serves as the Region 3 Representative for the NASW-TX State Board of Directors (2019-2021). She is a Circle of Security® Parenting Professional Trainer™ as well as a Certified Trauma Specialist through The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children®. She trained at the Adult Attachment Interview Institute under Drs. Mary Main, Ph.D, and Erik Hesse, Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley. She is a Certified Theraplay® Practitioner through the Theraplay® Institute in Evanston, Illionis and an EMDR therapist through the EMDRIA Institute. She was an adjunct professor of Social Work at Collin College in Plano, Texas. She is also a psychotherapist at The University of Texas at Dallas’ Student Counseling Center. She has been featured in the Washington Post, Reuters, Donaldson Adoption Institute, Dallas Child, Dear Adoption, and Dan Rather’s rehoming documentary, “Unwanted in America”—and a contributing columnist for Adoption Today. She speaks locally, state-wide, nationally, and internationally on issues impacting children, womxn of color, communities of color, transracial adoptees, and social justice. It is her firm belief that it is never too late to make a difference. Her practice is open to all seeking assistance to make a positive change in their daily lives.
